How can you help Who can you help

F.A.Q.

Why should I donate?
1. Growing need. Although a four year Argentine recession is over, the numbers of marginalized and 'extreme poor' continue to grow steadily as has been the case since the 1970s. Most of these people have never been given an opportunity in their entire lives to pull themselves and their children out of poverty. We at HelpArgentina believe that it is a basic human right to provide that one opportunity whether it be education, a job, or food for a new-born child. Donations should be made with this goal in mind.

2. Social Responsibility and Repayment. Many Argentines and foreigners have benefited in various ways from living in or associating with Argentina (most notably Argentine graduates of their public university system who received an education at no cost and no longer pay taxes when living abroad). There is a moral responsibility to contribute to the country's economic and social recovery, now more than ever.

3. Tax Deductible Donation. As a not for profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided under U.S. tax law.

4. Other. There are many additional reasons why your donation should be made via HelpArgentina:

  • Solidarity: Be part of an international Argentine network that believes in the country's future and is willing to take action to make it happen.
  • Ease & convenience
  • Security
  • Demonstrable Impact
  • Personalized Services
  • Professional Expertise
  • Multiplier Program
  • Exposure and positive corporate branding

Terms and conditions
As a not for profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided under U.S. tax law.

We understand that many individuals are rightfully concerned about how non-profit organizations use contributions. This is why we are proud of our efficiency model where after credit-card and bank fees, a full 95% of your donation will go directly to the beneficiary organization rather than administration or fundraising. HelpArgentina's low figure compares very favorably with the guideline of up to 35% recommended by the United States' Better Business Bureau and HelpArgentina's very own selection criteria of 40% for Argentine organizations.

HelpArgentina maintains "variance power" over funds donated to us in support of the programs operated by our beneficiary organizations. Under the terms of our agreement with each beneficiary organization, HelpArgentina retains full discretion and control over the use of such funds to accomplish the charitable purposes of the approved programs of the beneficiary organization. This power includes the unilateral right to redirect funds to a different organization that can accomplish these charitable purposes of this program, if for some reason the beneficiary organization cannot.

While HelpArgentina takes steps to monitor the purposes for which our beneficiary organizations use donated funds, HelpArgentina makes no representation, warranty or guarantee concerning the use of funds granted by HelpArgentina to beneficiary organizations including that the beneficiary organizations will use the funds in the contemplated manner or that any charitable objective will be accomplished. HelpArgentina expressly disclaims any liability arising from the disbursement of funds to beneficiary organizations.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. As a not for profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided under U.S. tax law. We are working to extend this benefit in the future to donors residing in other countries. We will inform you of this change as soon as tax exemption status is attained in other countries. Individuals should contact their accountant or financial advisors about their personal tax situation.

Do I need a receipt for the donation I make?
Yes. HelpArgentina will provide you with a donation receipt by email which can then be presented to the IRS with your tax returns.

How can I take a deduction for my donation?
To claim a deduction, you will need to fill out a 1040 Form, which is available through the IRS website, www.irs.gov, and itemize your deductions on Schedule A. If you fill out the short form or take standard deductions, you cannot claim your contributions. HelpArgentina staff is not trained U.S. accountants; each individual should refer to their accountant or financial advisors regarding their personal tax situation.

What types of fees are involved?
We understand that many individuals are rightfully concerned about how non-profit organizations use contributions, and are proud of our efficiency model. After the nominal credit-card fees and bank expenses, a full 95% of your donation goes directly to the beneficiary organization, project or social fund you select rather than administration or fundraising expenses.

HelpArgentina's low flat retention rate of 5% compares very favorably with the guideline of up to 35% recommended by the United States' Better Business Bureau and HelpArgentina's very own selection criteria of 40% for Argentine organizations. In fact, due to Argentina's recent devaluation and our organization's streamlined budget, we challenge you to find any similar organization with a lower retention rate.

How does HelpArgentina determine its Member Organizations?
All Argentine social organizations that have been previously recognized, either with an award or other reliable credential, are eligible but must go through an initial qualifying round where they present the information listed below and comply with our Basic Standards of Transparency and Accountability.

- Act of Constitutional Assembly
- Legal Statutes
- Most current Balance Sheet
- Source of organizational funds
- Two (2) recommendations from established Non-governmental organizations and/or public institutions
- Prospectus or Annual Report
- Relevant funding information to avoid terrorism financing & money laundering
- Key Officer and Director salaries

How can I use payroll deduction or stock transfer as a means of payment?
Get HelpArgentina listed in your employee-giving program. For more information, please contact us at Donor@HelpArgentina.org.

Is there a minimum contribution?
There is no minimum donation? Unlike most charities, our donation platform and organizational model prime focus are small donors. We believe that in the context of growing Argentine solidarity and diminishing communication and travel barriers, maximizing participation of small donors is more important than securing bigger, one-off donations.

I want to send a gift. Can I make a donation in the name of someone else?
Absolutely! Simply provide their name and email at checkout so we can notify them.

How does my donation get delivered to the organization I selected?
Donations made via HelpArgentina are sent directly to our secure U.S. bank account and never touched until disbursement. The funds are disbursed triannually to the corresponding beneficiary organizations in Argentina. Triannually disbursements leverage HelpArgentina's economies of scale in order to minimize the high international bank transfer fees levied.

I am a donor living in Argentina. Should I send my donation to HelpArgentina US or HelpArgentina Argentina?
HelpArgentina U.S. Please follow the standard steps delineated in Donation Methods. HelpArgentina is currently ensuring the security of payment channels in Argentina. As soon as it is confirmed and the technology in place, we will offer Argentine donors a separate payment destination when sending donations to HelpArgentina.

I am a company operating in Argentina. What type of corporate philanthropy services does HelpArgentina offer?
All the premium donor services are available to Argentine companies. Although our Donor Services are not right for all companies, many benefit significantly by outsourcing this process to trained professionals. Social matters and thus corporate philanthropy is not a company's core competency where their employees are not qualified to make difficult and important social decisions that have real impact on the effectiveness of the company's social investment.

There is no mistaking the rapid increase in Corporate Social Responsibility within the Argentina private sector. Many companies are deciding to partake in corporate philanthropy, supporting Argentine social projects in their communities or throughout the country. As this is a new phenomenon in Argentina, there are very few support service organizations like HelpArgentina dedicated to assisting these companies in their socially conscious ambitions, maximizing the impact of these efforts.

Companies should ask themselves if their company is making its social investments as it would its financial investments? If the answer is no, perhaps HelpArgentina should be considered .
